The sugar cluster is located in 39 municipalities of the provinces of Caldas, Cauca, Risaralda and Cauca Valley in the inter-Andean valley of the Cauca River in southwestern Colombia.
Considering only the area cultivated with sugarcane, the conglomerate covers almost 200,000 ha, 78% of which are found in the Province of the Cauca Valley, 19% in Cauca, 1.6% in Risaralda and 1.3% in Caldas. It stretches from the municipality of Belalcázar in Caldas to the municipality of Santander de Quilichao in Cauca. The total area of the cluster, adding the area with cane and other areas of influence, is 429 ha. The sugar cluster is a part of the agricultural, livestock and industrial sectors, specializing in the production of sugarcane, sugars, molasses and alcohol (ethanol).
