Our participation in the XXXII Centenary Congress of the ISSCT began after the opening ceremony. Dr. Fredy Fernando Garcés, CEO of Cenicaña, along with Claudia Ximena Calero, president of the Colombian Sugarcane Growers Association, presented the event in plenary session. “Global Challenges and Opportunities in the Sugarcane Agroindustrial Sector: Lessons from Colombia”
The speech highlighted how the Colombian agroindustry has responded to major global challenges. This includes managing the climate variability, The best of the efficiency in operations, the progress in the mechanization and digitalization, diversification of its offer and decarbonization, all within a framework of circular economy.

Subsequently, the academic conferences began, which were divided into the topics of agriculture, biology, manufacturing and by-products. For the first day of the congress, Cenicaña researchers and professionals participated in various spaces, where they were able to present advances in research and beneficial practices for the sugarcane agroindustry in Colombia.
