Drip irrigation is defined as the localized application of water at low flow, low pressure and high frequency.
Although this irrigation system has been widely used in places like Hawaii, it is important to keep in mind that there is only 20% of the cane's water requirements, while in the Valle del Cauca the contribution is 80% in average.
Drip irrigation is promising in areas with low water availability or with sandy loam soils. It is advisable to evaluate the viability of the system by carrying out installations in pilot areas before making commercial size installations.
